Each of the six colleges has its own academic characteristics. Students in each college must pass an educational program offered by their own college in order to graduate. Revere College was founded in 1964. Its main orientation is Western classical literature and art. Its general courses are considered to be the most difficult among the six colleges because of their involvement in mathematics, science and history. Eleanor Roosevelt College was founded in 1988, and its general studies program is considered second only to Revere College for its extensive knowledge of the social sciences and world history. John Muir College, founded in 1967, focuses on flexible and selective basic education, and its general studies curriculum is considered the simplest of the six colleges. The other three colleges offer less difficult general studies than Revere and Eleanor Roosevelt, but they are no less difficult.
